Dow Credit Union Opens Membership to All of Michigan and Eliminates NSF Fees
April 23, 2025Midland, Michigan – Dow Credit Union has officially opened its membership to all Michigan residents, following a recent Board-approved statewide membership eligibility update. This milestone reinforces the credit union’s commitment to inclusive financial access. In a continued effort to support financial equity, effective Tuesday, April 1, 2025, the credit union has also eliminated non-sufficient funds (NSF) fees—another step toward delivering a more transparent, affordable, member-first experience.
“Financial well-being should be accessible to everyone—and this move ensures more people can experience the exceptional value Dow Credit Union provides,” said CEO Michael Goad. “Our focus is on delivering value—not fees. We offer great rates, low costs, and a true sense of ownership that traditional banks can’t match.”
Under the new statewide charter, Dow Credit Union updated its bylaws so that any Michigan resident can join Dow Credit Union. For individuals residing outside of Michigan, anyone can become a member by donating $10 to Dow Credit Union’s Multipliers for Good fund, which supports grants for nonprofit initiatives. All applicants are welcome to join by depositing $5.00 into a Prime Savings Account—your first step toward membership and ownership in the credit union.
With over 80,000 members across all 50 states, Dow Credit Union is the largest and fastest-growing credit union headquartered in the Great Lakes Bay Region. It continues to gain national recognition for outstanding service, competitive rates, and community impact. Earlier this month, Dow Credit Union was named one of America’s Best Regional Banks and Credit Unions for 2025 by Newsweek following the return of $18.6 million to members in 2024 through their unique Member Giveback Program.
By eliminating NSF fees and broadening access to membership, the credit union continues to lead by example in creating a more inclusive and equitable financial future.
“This expansion reflects our deep commitment to improving the lives of our members, employees, and neighbors,” added Goad. “Whether you're in Michigan or across the country, Dow Credit Union invites you to experience what banking can be when it puts people first.”
