Dow Credit Union Observes CU Kind Day With Month of Service
October 07, 2023BAY REGION - Dow Credit Union will participate in CU Kind Day on Oct. 9, 2023, joining dozens of other financial institutions in the Michigan Credit Union League in giving back to their communities. CU Kind Day provides credit unions like ours with an opportunity to reinvest in the communities they serve, and many will choose to donate or volunteer with partner nonprofits.
"Giving back to our members, communities, and beyond is part of what makes us different," the Michigan Credit Union League said in a statement. "This annual day of kindness is our chance to show communities throughout Michigan how much credit unions care."
This year, we will install a community "Positivity Bench" in partnership with the Midland-based Legacy Center for Community Success and Links, an international nonprofit committed to improving the quality of life for people of African descent. Located at the Legacy Center's new Abbot Road facility, the bench is intended to promote safe spaces to tackle "hard-to-discuss issues."
“When I found out about the purpose of the Links, the purpose of the Legacy Center, and the purpose of the Positivity bench, it was pretty much a no-brainer for us,” LaShanta Green, director of community relations, said.
The central metaphor behind the bench reflects our commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion, along with general wellness in Midland County.
Rather than impose the limitations of a single day on ourselves, we will continue to give back throughout the month. As October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we already delivered seven dozen pink roses to the Center for Women’s Health in Midland and Saginaw’s Lutz VA Hospital. Furthermore, Amanda Abbe, a loan title clerk, distributed coloring books and crayons to local groups of young readers, echoing our commitment to support youth and education.
“We believe in giving back and serving as multipliers for good,” Green said. “Part of our commitment to members is making ongoing investments to support and uplift the communities we call home.”
