Saginaw Township PD Receives Donation at National Night Out
July 31, 2023Dow Credit Union presented the Saginaw Township Police Department with a $1,000 donation during their National Night Out festivities on August 1.
"We will be formally joining the Saginaw Township community of businesses with the opening of our new branch in September," LaShanta Green, the credit union's director of community relations, said. "We're proud to invest in an institution that does so much to safeguard this community."
The National Night Out, which occurs annually on the first Tuesday in August, is observed by law enforcement institutions across the country. The holiday is intended to foster relationships between emergency services professionals and the publics they serve. In Saginaw Township, the police department is joined by the fire department as well as EMS staff every year at the soccer complex of McCarty Road.
According to the township, the event allows community members to explore various police, fire and emergency medical services apparatus. Thousands of families attended the event, including many youth. In addition to the demonstrations and experiential activities, officers distributed free bicycle helmets to the children in attendance.
A team of Dow Credit Union professionals also hosted a booth during the festivities, which remained mobbed throughout the evening. Children were treated to treats, games and giveaways.
"It really was fascinating to see all of the equipment that police, firefighters and EMS use every day," Green said. "I hope our donation will help ensure they continue to have access to the best life-saving equipment available."
