November 18, 2024

Midland, Michigan – Dow Credit Union’s President/CEO Michael Goad was honored with the Xavier DeGroat Autism Foundation’s 2024 Leadership Award for excellence in member and community care. Now in its second year, the Leadership Award is presented to outstanding leaders across the Great Lakes Bay Region who positively impact and inspire the lives of all people, with a focus on inclusivity for individuals with exceptionalities.

"Michael improves the lives of others and our local communities through acts of service and kindness," shared Xavier DeGroat, Founder and CEO of the Xavier DeGroat Autism Foundation. "He has a big heart and genuinely cares about the well-being of others, which is one of many reasons we chose to honor him for exemplary leadership."

The Xavier DeGroat Autism Foundation challenges stereotypes, promotes inclusivity, and works towards improving access to education and employment opportunities for those on the spectrum. Their efforts contribute to creating a more compassionate and understanding society that celebrates neurodiversity.

“It is a profound honor to receive the Leadership Award from the Xavier DeGroat Autism Foundation,” said Michael Goad, President/CEO of Dow Credit Union. “Xavier’s tremendous efforts to break down barriers and advocate for the autistic community is inspiring and a testament to the power of inclusion, compassion, and the belief that everyone, regardless of ability, has a unique and vital contribution to make. All individuals deserve to thrive, and I look forward to continuing to work toward a future that embraces the strengths of every person in our community. It takes a collective effort—family, businesses, and the entire community—to create meaningful change, and we truly value the incredible work Xavier is doing to make a difference."

The award ceremony took place at Zehnder’s of Frankenmuth on Thursday, November 14, 2024, during the Celebrities Celebrate Autism Christmas Giveaway Dinner. Celebrity speakers included Dr. Francois Clemmons (Officer Clemmons from Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood), Billy Sims (former Detroit Lions running back, Heisman Trophy winner, and BBQ restaurant owner), and John Moeller (former White House Chief Chef and author).
