Our Mission

Act as a multiplier for good, sharing our success to improve the lives of members, employees, and neighbors to build stronger, more vibrant communities.

Dow Credit Union's Service Commitment is to be our members' lifelong financial partner by building trusted relationships.

Dow Credit Union was the 182nd credit union organized in the State of Michigan.

In 1937, the country was still in the throes of a severe economic depression that underscored the need for a workable financial plan to enable Dow employees to save for emergencies and obtain convenient, low-cost credit. Two Dow employees heard about the credit union movement and brought members of the Michigan Credit Union League to Midland. Representatives of labor and management heard the plan, liked it, and applied to the State Banking Department for a charter, which was granted July 28, 1937.

When Dow Credit Union began, membership was available to all employees of The Dow Chemical Company upon payment of a $0.25 membership fee. After joining, members could buy shares in the Credit Union for $5 each. The maximum loan granted without security was $50 and the maximum loan with security was $300. Interest rates were fixed at one percent a month on unpaid balances of any loan.

The first year of its inception, Dow Credit Union had 338 members and issued $4,990 in loans. By 1938, the assets reached $35,983. Dow Credit Union is proud to serve more than 74 thousand members and as of December 31, 2021 has over $2.1 billion in assets.

Our goal has always been to serve the members to the best of our abilities and provide them with the best value for their money. Every day, we continually strive to improve our level of service by keeping our common focus on the members. Thank you for your continued support of Dow Credit Union and for utilizing the many services we offer. Please look to us first for all of your financial needs as we continue to provide great value and pricing of our products and services. We look forward to serving you today, tomorrow, and for the years to come. Remember, Dow Credit Union is your Credit Union!

Dow Credit Union’s Marketing Efforts Nationally Recognized for

Creative Excellence

Midland, Michigan, April 11, 2023 – Dow Credit Union’s marketing and rebranding efforts have been recognized for creative excellence and effectiveness in a nationwide credit union marketing awards program.

The Diamond Awards were presented by the Credit Union National Association through its Marketing and Business Development Council in the rebrand/new corporate identity category. The awards recognize credit unions that create and implement campaigns displaying creative excellence and outstanding results.

“We thank CUNA for this honor and appreciate its commitment to recognizing excellence in credit unions across the country,” said Michael Goad, Dow Credit Union president and CEO. “Over the past year, our marketing team has worked diligently to implement a successful rebrand that resonated with members. Our refreshed look and voice communicate modernity and approachability while exemplifying our mission of being welcoming to all.”

Dow Credit Union’s updated logo and member giveback video were submitted to the panel of award judges.

The new logo, while keeping traditional elements from the previous logo, reflects a move to a modern direction. The logo’s trapezoidal shape represents forward moving and has been included on all promotional products, signage and marketing and communication materials.

The Member Giveback video used archival files dating back to 1961 to tell the story of Dow Credit Union’s long history of its Member Giveback program. Combined with a montage of recent community support efforts, the video illustrated the credit union’s commitment to community.

Additionally, CUNA recently recognized Dow Credit Union’s Director of Marketing and Community Relations LaShanta Green as an emerging marketing professional through its Rising Star award. This award honors an emerging marketing or business development professional in the credit union industry whose work demonstrates ongoing and exceptional growth. Green was acknowledged for her impact within the industry and her contributions to Dow Credit Union, including facilitating the rebrand, overseeing the website, community partnerships, product marketing and other external communications opportunities.

“I am honored to be recognized by my industry peers for this esteemed award,” Green said. “I am grateful for the trust Dow Credit Union executive leadership has placed in my ability to lead impactful initiatives and how collaborative my colleagues and external partners have been since I arrived. Here, I've earned many opportunities to align my ‘why’ with my work in ways I couldn't have imagined when I accepted this role. I look forward to what's next.”
