Dow Credit Union Sponsors Breakfast for Local Scouts

MIDLAND - The Boy Scouts of America's Michigan Crossroads Council will hold its annual Great Lakes Bay Region Breakfast in the Great Hall on Sept. 21, honoring local community leaders and raising funds to expand its programs in the Great Lakes Bay Region.
Presented by Dow, the event will raise money exclusively to support Scouting's local youth programs. Our credit union has committed to invest in boys and girls across the region as the breakfast's "Eagle-level sponsor."
"We have set some very ambitious goals this year, and Dow Credit Union's support for the breakfast will help us realize them," Jake Straub, Scouting's district director in Mid-Michigan, said. "We're planning to introduce 1,000 new youth to the Scouting experience before the end of the year."
Straub explained that their strategic vision includes serving more rural and low-income communities. Many of these families may require additional support to access all of the opportunities Scouting has to offer, necessitating additional funds for the movement's already extensive financial assistance programs.
"Functions like these are essential for securing the necessary resources to keep our programs both exceptional and accessible," Eric Curtis, a senior development director with the council, said. "Through the community's support for our breakfast, we are able to ensure that cost is never a barrier for its youth."
This year, the breakfast will also honor two accomplished community leaders with the Distinguished Citizen Award. Event organizers selected Craig Goslin, president of the Saginaw Spirit, and Peter Shaheen of Shaheen Development for their extensive support of youth programs in the Great Lakes Bay Region.
"The Scouts deliver some amazing opportunities for our kids here in Midland," LaShanta Green, Dow Credit Union's director of community relations, said. "We are proud to assist them in removing barriers to the Scouting experience."
