Consumer Lending Department Helps to "Stuff the Bus"

August 18, 2023
MIDLAND - Dow Credit Union professionals delivered dozens of bags filled with snacks and school supplies to Garber Chevrolet's second annual Stuff the Bus initiative on Aug. 18, as students across Midland County prepare to return to their classrooms.

"As a credit union, we see projects like this as an investment in the community," program coordinator Walt Hall said. "Supporting the educations of young people today will pay dividends for generations to come."

The titular school bus, which remained parked on the dealership's lot throughout the afternoon to accept donations, was ultimately filled to capacity. Markers, notebooks, paper, backpacks and nonperishable snacks were among the most popular contributions. Donations will benefit Midland, Sanford, Coleman and Bullock Creek Early Childhood Great Start Readiness Programs (GSRPs), along with Head Start families.

Our credit union was in good company, with Dupont and the Three Rivers Corporation likewise supporting Garber Chevrolet in the endeavor. A DJ from 94.5 "The Moose" also attended, providing music and spreading the word about the drive with live public service announcements.

"We've offered auto loans since the 1940s, so we've been working with Garber for the better part of a century," Hall said. "I know it has been a tremendously rewarding relationship, and it's great to support philanthropic causes alongside them. It was also great to see some of our Select Employer Groups out there."
