Great Lakes Loons Earn $7,700 for Midland’s Open Door

October 30, 2022

MIDLAND – Our credit union recently presented Midland’s Open Door with a check for $7,700; this fulfilled our pledge to donate $100 to the charity for each of the home team’s victories in the 2022 Minor League Baseball season as part of the Loons Wins initiative.

Thanks to the Loons’ exceptional series of wins, the local nonprofit enjoyed a veritable jackpot. According to CEO Michael Goad, the Loon’s Wins program is one our credit union is proud to support. Not only is the initiative a product of collaboration with our favorite team, but it also reflects many of our core values.

“As multipliers for good, our desire to ‘give back’ applies both to banking and how we are here to help fulfill the basic needs within our community,” CEO Michael Goad said.

Midland’s Open Door is dedicated to delivering programs and services to the homeless, hungry, and otherwise afflicted in the community. In addition to a soup kitchen, which the nonprofit operates from Monday through Saturday each week, Open Door maintains two local shelters: one for men, the other for women and children. Furthermore, they offer case management, counseling, and a robust clothing ministry.

“The Open Door provides assistance to over 1,500 of our Midland neighbors every year,” Renee Pettinger, executive director of Midland’s Open Door, said. “Community partners like the folks at Dow Credit Union make this possible.”

During 2021, the organization provided a safe place for 271 men, women, and children to sleep; additionally, soup kitchen volunteers served 44,273 meals over the course of that year alone. These programs are all reliant on contributions from the community and the dedication of local volunteers to sustain its impact. For every dollar the organization receives, $.82 is invested directly in restorative and transformational programming.
