Contactless debit cards are coming

November 14, 2022

We are reissuing new Visa® Debit Cards with contactless technology to our cardholders through the remainder of the year.

Cards will have a new card number and expiration date and will replace current debit cards, regardless of their expiration date. Debit cards without contactless technology will be shut off after January 9, 2023.

Once you receive your new debit card:

  1. Activate your card right away.

  2. Set up your PIN.

  3. Be sure to update any recurring/automatic payments with your new card information to avoid declined payments.

The contactless feature provides you with the added convenience to “tap to pay” at all checkout card readers with the contactless symbol. Your new debit card will still include an EMV chip and magnetic strip.

We have compiled a list of questions you may have below.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will my debit card number change?

Yes. The card you will be receiving will have a new card number. Once you’ve activated your new card, any recurring/automatic payments using your old card information will need to be updated with your new card number, expiration date, and CVV code to avoid declined payments.

How long can I continue to use my existing debit card?

You can use your existing card until January 9, 2023. Please activate your new card on or before this date. Your existing card will be shut off after January 9, 2023.

How do I select my PIN?

After receiving your new card, you can do either of the following:

  • Follow the instructions on the card to select your PIN; or

  • Wait to receive an assigned PIN, which should arrive by mail a few days after your new card is delivered.

How do I activate my debit card?

  • After receiving your PIN by mail, complete a balance inquiry, withdrawal or deposit at any ATM or complete a PIN-based transaction at any merchant.

  • Call 866.762.0558 (within the U.S.) or 800.466.0040 (outside the U.S.).

Why am I receiving a debit card with the Dow Chemical Employees’ Credit Union name instead of the new Dow Credit Union name?

We will replace cards with the new name and branding once we deplete our existing card stock. Once activated, the new card you are about to receive will remain functional until its expiration date, regardless of the name.

How do I use a contactless card?

You can use the tap to pay wherever you see the contactless symbol at checkout. Simply tap or hold your card above the reader to make a fast, secure, and touch-free payment.
